Fitness Tips For Those Who Hate Working Out: Three Ways To Make Your Exercise Fun

All those fitness tips and tricks you’ve seen seem to assume that you love working out. It seems like it’s embarrassing to admit that you don’t actually want to exercise.

The truth is … you don’t really enjoy working out. It’s a chore for you.

But you know that if you want to get into great shape, you’ve got to exercise regularly.

That’s unavoidable.

In other words, if you want a great figure, you can’t really get out of working out regularly.

So, you might as well learn to like your exercise.

But all is not doom and gloom. There are actually ways to make your exercise enjoyable, so much so that you’ll even look forward to doing it.

Here I’ll show you three ways to make your exercise fun.

If you tend to get terribly bored with your workout, vary the activities you do. Your workout can even turn into your pastime or hobby. Fancy that, eh?

One thing though – push yourself hard from time to time. What I mean is, if you rate how hard the exercise feels to you on a scale from 1 to 10, you should push yourself 7 to 9 from time to time.

With that, here are three activities I’ve used as my exercise and found to be really fun.

1. Strength Walking

You probably know by now that walking is not an effective fat burning exercise. If you like walking (like I do) that’s bad news.

However, you can make it a good cardiovascular and even strengthening exercise simply by carrying a heavy backpack on your back. Put your favourite music on your iPod. And walk.

Keep your abs pulled in the whole time and your back straight. You’ll be strengthening your whole body as well as burning more calories than with the usual walk.

As you get fitter, choose a hilly route. That’ll make your legs stronger and more shapely.

One thing you could do is to incorporate your strength walks with your usual grocery shopping. If your supermarket is within walking distance, instead of going in the car to do your weekly shopping, take a big rucksack with you. Walk to the supermarket. Do your shopping. And put all the shopping in the rucksack. Put it on your back and walk back home.

You’ve got two jobs done in one go that way. How great is that!

Now, don’t worry if that’s not what you want to do. Here come more fitness tips for making your exercise fun.

2. Play Video Games

Don’t laugh! I have found some really good games on the Nintendo Wii. I tried a couple and they’re actually fun. There are even activities such as skiing, yoga, basketball.

Perfect if you find it difficult to bring yourself to exercise.

Wii Fit and EA Sports Active 2 are the ones I tried and found to be fun. So, check them out at or your local game shop. Before you buy, read reviews from real users of these games to make sure they’re really what you want.

Now … on to the final fitness tips for today. 🙂

3. Your Stairs Are For More Than Just Going Up And Down

If you have a staircase at home, you can use it to get a great cardiovascular workout. You can do this in 3 ways.

Just run up and down the stairs for as long as you can manage. Then rest 2 to 3 minutes. Then run up and down the stairs again for as long as you can. Then rest. Rinse and repeat. Do this for 3 to 5 rounds. If you can’t manage running yet, just walk up and down the stairs briskly.

To make this exercise harder, put a few thick books or something heavy in your backpack and put it on while you do your stair runs or walks. You’ll get to build strength all over your body as well. A great way if you can’t fit in a separate strength training workout.

If you want to make it into a proper interval workout, I show you how on this stair workout routine page. Check it out.

There you go. I hope you’ve enjoyed these fitness tips and use them to make your exercise fun rather than a chore.

Good luck!
